I joined the Gwangju Performance Project back in June when I found out about a play they were doing at that time. Tickets had already sold out so I couldn't go, but I hear the play, Picasso At the Lapin Agile, was fabulous. The current play was cast in mid-October and we've been working on it every weekend since. Curtain goes up next Sunday and I couldn't be more excited.
If you know me at all, you know I love theater. Something about it is magical. Although I've been on stage and the feeling I get from that is like nothing else in the world, I am more comfortable in the tech booth. It is one of my earliest technical backgrounds and what I love doing. Plus, if I screw up, the audience won't know exactly who to blame. Not that I'd screw anything up, but I guess it puts my mind more at ease. It's the best of both worlds.
Being Lead Tech is nothing new for me, and I am looking forward to doing 'my thing' here in Korea. I am in charge of sound and lighting. I am almost set to go with my audio files (and backups), and I finished the rough lighting design earlier today. All that's left is to finalize, test run, and then re-finalize if needed. The theater is different (for lack of a better word) than what I'm used to, but it's a workable set so I'm fortunate for that. I am also happy that I won't have to set the lights myself, as Kate and heights do not mix well. Instead of getting on the ladder myself, the nice man who works at the theater will place each light where I direct. (Someone said he is probably doing this because it is a liability for me to do it, but I strongly believe the word 'liability' doesn't exist in Korean culture.)
I created the advertisement for the show and am quite proud of it.
I am also working on the program, and I should have that completed by mid-week. I am just waiting on the actors to submit their bios so I can send it off to the printer.
I am very excited about the show, and along with several friends who will be in attendance, my sister and brother-in-law will come down for a performance, as well. To top it off, the weather has been forecast to snow on Friday and Saturday. I told you something about theater was magical.
Awesome! Have fun and break a leg!
