In May 2013, I took another wonderfully amazing trip, one that was almost 30 years in the making. (Assuming, of course, that I wanted to travel to Australia even before I knew there was an Australia. However odd this may sound, it's completely possible, trust me.)
Australia was everything I had dreamt of, and so much more. It was so beautiful and the people were so friendly. Being a seasoned traveler, I was well aware of my surroundings at all times, but I also felt very safe. Warm smiles and friendly hello's were everywhere. Again, as in Greece, every single second in Australia was wonderful. The preconceived idea that this would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip is now, most definitely, an I'm-going-again-on-my-very-next-opportunity trip.
Before making your way through the blog posts, keep this in mind: Australia was not only a place that I've wanted to visit for my entire life, it was the place that I've wanted to visit for my entire life. Imagine yourself wanting to visit one place on Earth for your entire life. And then imagine finally being there. Stepping off the plane and onto that foreign soil, before you even get to the customs officer, you know you're there. Even if they deny you entry. You're there now. You flew over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House on your way in. You've seen them. You've made it. And then once you get through the lines and down the rows and to the customs officer, when you get there, being allowed entry with a, "Welcome to Australia" and seeing one of the friendliest smiles you've ever seen, you're even more there, if that's even possible. They've let you in. You can stay. Every single moment of my entire trip, every day of the nine days that I was there, every plane ride I took, every boat ride, every toe stuck in the ocean, every breathtaking view seen with my very own eyes of the places that I've only previously seen through someone else's photos, every single thing. I can only dream of experiencing something so thoroughly again in my life.
So while I probably took as many photos as my trip to Greece last year, I did do a little less writing. There is nothing that 'shouldn't' be posted from my trip, but most of my best memories are feelings that can't be put into words. So I will keep them within myself. These are memories that I will have forever. And if one day I get Alzheimer's, I'll just have to go back and re-experience it for the first time. Again.
