I cut some hair off a few weeks ago and now have bangs again, and tonight I got a second hole in each of my ears.
New bangs! Firstly, yes I'm wearing a shirt, you just can't see it. It's a tube top. But I thought this picture was too cute not to post. (And I don't have makeup on - ah mah gahd!) Secondly, I have bangs again! Ah!
Why hello there, new piercings! Can you see the little black stud dot on my right ear? There's a corresponding one on my left ear, too, but I'm not nearly as photogenic on my left side so all you get are right-side pictures. And that's my cute new blue sparkly flower barrette, too.
Elizabeth went with me to hold my hand, and to offer moral support when I chickened out. But I didn't chicken out. (I just didn't tell her until afterward that I actually didn't fully decide to do it until I sat down on the stool.) Apparently, in Korea, piercings and tattoos are much safer than back home because there are way more regulations. To preform any work with a needle on the body, you need to be specialty licensed. This means that any old jewelry shop in the 'mall' can't pierce ears. I know, because I went to about half of the shops Daejeon has to offer before I got on a bus and went halfway across town to the tattoo and piercing shop I saw a few months ago, 73 Piercing and TattooBy [Sun Il] (conveniently putting the artist's name after the name of the shop - genius).
After talking to one of the guys and finding out how they would do it (by jamming a sterilized needle through my ear), asking him if it would hurt or if I would cry from pain, picking out black studs, sitting down on the stool, deciding to go through with it, and by double checking at the last second that the needle was sterile, I grabbed Elizabeth's hand and decided to do it.
The licensed guy first made a little mark where the hole would go and double checked with me if it was okay. Then I felt a bit of a pinch and it was done. I couldn't believe it. Not completely painless, but zillions less than I expected. I'm pretty sure both guys thought I was a complete idiot for thinking it would hurt. But they were right, it was just a pinch and didn't really hurt at all. Props to the guy who knew enough English to help me decide to do it, and to the artist that made holes in my ears. Should I require it, you've earned my repeat business. (And this definitely counts as telling my friends.)
such creative, bright, adorable children. what fun to be their teacher. enjoy each day with them, they might teach you a lot.

Hi, I'm actually looking to get my ears pierced and wondering where's the place you gots yours done and how much was it. Love your blog :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I got mine done in Daejeon, in the old downtown area, Eunhangdong. There is a piercing place ...somewhere! It's on the same street as Zara, very near a corner and a cell phone shop. (Sorry for the bad directions!!) It was only as much as the earrings I chose to get pierced with, so it can be as little as 5,000w per ear. I chose sparkly ones do it was 6,000w per ear. Hope this helps! :)
