I believe in Santa. Maybe not as a person, but more as an idea. A belief in the good of the world, and in the possibility of miracles.
With all of the granted Christmas wishes being presented by the media lately, like the awesome thing WestJet did for their customers and the gift drives for local Gwangju orphanages that I helped out with by donating a few Christmas wishes to, I've been giving thought to my own wish.
So this is it: My wish is to see my family. In person. And without any catches, like getting fired and/or deported in order to make it happen. I like my job very much and wish to keep it.
See? It's next to impossible, if not fully and completely 110% impossible. Because the only other way for that to happen would be for my family to come to Korea, which isn't going to happen either. And I don't blame them. Not only is it expensive, and more-so now because of the holidays (isn't that price gouging?? someone should get on that), but it's also pretty friggin' cold here now, and cold is awful. We're Floridians. We're not built for cold.
But hey, it's Christmas. I'm allowed to ask for the impossible.
If Santa finds my main wish impossible to fulfill but still wishes to try and make me smile this year, here are a few alternative wishes.
Wish #2. Because seriously, I'm normal sized. And beautiful. And hate feeling like a shunned-from-the-stores-because-I-have-curves boat in the awful, hideously unattractive mens parka that I have. Because curves are beautiful. And women's coats should NOT be the same size as juniors. Thanks, Korea. Self-love of body image successfully lost.
Wish #3. Because, really, it's the right thing to do. Christmas should be more about things like this and less about trying to find the perfect 'thing' for someone who doesn't need more 'things'.
Wish #4. Just for fun, really, and because it's one of my most favorite places in the world. Plus it'd be super cool. I was there, I saw it, I toured it, I sat in it, I watched the Australian Ballet in it, and I own a little piece of it. (Well, that last part is still up in the air.)
Merry Christmas to everyone I love and miss all over the world. May you have a wonderful holiday season, may all your wishes and those of your loved ones come true, and may you never stop believing in miracles (even the impossible ones).
Love,
Kate
