Daecheon Beach

I went back to work for two days after summer vacation and then had another weekend before it was back to reality, so I decided to take myself to another beach. This time I visited Daecheon Beach, which is the same beach where the Boryeong Mud Festival takes place in mid-July. It's a great beach, just like those found in Florida, with real sand and shells. (In contrast, most Korean beaches have rocks and pebbles and aren't typically sandy.)

Daecheon Beach
While the beach was fantastic, I don't think I'll be headed back there any time soon. It took about three hours travel time, each way, and two buses that each took back roads, as they weren't direct and had other stops to make on the way. Had I known that prior to setting off, I think I would have chosen another beach to start with. (Apparently I can take a train to the city of Daecheon and then taxi to the beach, but only one train goes there a day. I went on a Sunday and it was necessary that I returned that evening so I could work the following day.)

Boryeong Mud Flats
It was a pretty relaxing day. I laid on the beach for about 3 hours and watched the tide rise probably 10 feet or so. I spent my last hour finding the mud facility where you can have a mud massage, mud bath, buy mud beauty products, and learn about all of the wonderful skin benefits of the Boryeong mud. Then I headed back to the bus terminal on the beach, boarded my bus, and settled in for the three hour journey back to Daejeon.

  1. even though it took three hours to get there it sounds like a nice beach and a good way to relax before you had to go back. did you like the mud?
