Who Needs A Special Occasion For Fireworks?

I was sitting at home last night after work creating the ultimate music mix for my ipod when all of a sudden I heard some pretty loud pops through my headphones.

What could it be?

A baseball player could throw a ball from my window and hit Chosun University, one of several universities in Gwangju City. I can see Chosun University Hospital from my window. I guess they were having some kind of festival last night, and when I heard the loud pops even with my noise-cancelling headphones over my hears, I had to look out the window and see what was going on. Surely I wouldn't be able to see anything, but just to satisfy my curiosity, I got up, and this is what I saw from my window:
